Huge changes in store for AEW. Dark Elevation is no longer. Dark is on hiatus, supposedly. We’ve got a big new show on the way in AEW Collision and Rampage is getting downgraded to a sort of “Sunday Night Heat” type program. Lately, the Top 5 has consisted of a lot of wrestlers who wrestle on ROH and it’s a bit unfair since they stack up these matches and then show them later. Still deciding how to balance that.
Anyway, who made the Top 5 for April 2023?
#5: Skye Blue (5)

Venue | Record |
---|---|
AEW | 3-1-0 |
Dynamite/Rampage/PPV | 0-1-0 |
Dark/Elevation | 2-0-0 |
Ring Of Honor | 1-0-0 |
Summary
The only blemish on Skye Blue’s record for April came on Dynamite in a tag match with Riho vs Toni Storm & Ruby Soho. Other than that, she beat Angelica Risk on Dark Elevation, and then in Ring Of Honor where she’s being built up as a competitor to Athena’s World title, she picked up wins against Kelly Madan and Diamante.
#4: Jade Cargill (NR)

Venue | Record |
---|---|
AEW | 2-0-0 |
Dynamite/Rampage/PPV | 2-0-0 |
Dark/Elevation | 0-0-0 |
Ring Of Honor | 0-0-0 |
Summary
Jade, once again, exists on her own island in AEW where, for the most part, she doesn’t interact with the bulk of the roster. This month, however, she had two great competitors and defeated them both. At Battle Of The Belts, Jade put away the young prodigy Billie Starkz. And then in Sunrise, Florida, in a match that I got to watch live, Jade finally faced and defeated Taya Valkyrie to become 56-0. Given the stipulation of the match, I’m pretty certain this match will be run back soon.
#3: Jamie Hayter (NR)

Venue | Record |
---|---|
AEW | 2-0-0 |
Dynamite/Rampage/PPV | 2-0-0 |
Dark/Elevation | 0-0-0 |
Ring Of Honor | 0-0-0 |
Summary
The World Champ had a strong (albeit slow) month, wrestling only twice but both big wins on Dynamite. Jamie put on yet another classic with Riho, successfully defending her belt, and then she and her partner Britt Baker defeated Ruby Soho & Toni Storm of The Outcasts in “Brittsburgh”. Jamie would be, cleverly, carried out “injured” to logically setup Britt getting attacked later in the show without Jamie being able to back her up.
#2: Willow Nightingale (3)

Venue | Record |
---|---|
AEW | 5-1-0 |
Dynamite/Rampage/PPV | 0-1-0 |
Dark/Elevation | 1-0-0 |
Ring Of Honor | 4-0-0 |
Summary
Willow maintains her #3 ranking from March into April. She didn’t wrestle on Dynamite or Rampage but defeated Diamanté on an episode of Dark before picking up four wins in ROH, beating Notorius Mimi, Little Mean Kathleen, Robyn Renegade and the impressive Steph De Lander.
#1: Athena (1)

Venue | Record |
---|---|
AEW | 5-0-0 |
Dynamite/Rampage/PPV | 0-0-0 |
Dark/Elevation | 0-0-0 |
Ring Of Honor | 5-0-0 |
Summary
This might change in the future but for now, it’s impossible to separate AEW from Ring Of Honor. So even though Athena hasn’t wrestled a single match in AEW proper (not even Dark), it’s impossible not to once again give her the top spot in the Top 5 for the second straight month given her body of work.
Athena began the month by defeating Tokyo Joshi Pro’s Ace, Miyu Yamashita. She had terrific matches with three of my current unsigned/unconfirmed favourites in Ashley D’Amboise, Heather Reckless, and Lady Frost. And with her victory over Angelica Risk (a match I watched live), she’s a prefect 5-0 but more importantly, Athena gives you so much action, even in the 2:48 match against Heather Reckless. She’s one of my favourite wrestlers to watch in the whole world. Easy top honours for me.
So what do you think? Would you shift around these 5 women? Is there someone else you’d place in the Top 5? And if so, who do you take out? You can let me know in the comment section or hit me up on Twitter at @aew_one.
Thanks for reading and, as always, make sure you let the women in your life know how much you appreciate them!
