Oh shit well isn’t this interesting? These are two wrestlers who, under my own AEW Women’s Division Roster, I have listed as ‘Prospects’ since they both regularly get wins on Dark. My hunch is that Diamanté would take this one but if they give it to Skye Blue, that’d say a lot…
Both get their own entrances. Hmmmm…
Skye Blue gets a nice POP from her hometown Chicago crowd. Maybe they are going to give Skye this win?
Match opens with an exchange of holds which Diamanté breaks up with an elbow strike. Nice reversal into a deep rollup pin by Blue in the corner. Diamanté drops Blue on the apron then baseball slides into her. That looked painful (in a good way).
Diamanté brings Skye Blue back in the ring and controls the match, building heat but Skye dodges a corner dropkick for the comeback. Skye and Diamanté “Ya/Boo” exchange strikes which Skye gets the better of. Skye hits a nice Hurricanerana but can’t seal the deal.
Diamanté comes back with a hattrick of German Suplexes, bridging on the last one but only gets 2. Skye hits a thrust kick then puts Diamanté into a rear double hook holding Diamanté’s feet off the ground before spinning her to the right and Flatlining her. 1… 2… 3! Holy shit! Skye Blue did the thing!
So looking outside the statement this win is (as this is a match review), I thought it was good overall. I felt like some of Skye’s strikes could’ve looked stronger but for the time being, it doesn’t hurt her character but if she’s gonna be elevated, I’d like to see her hit harder.
Note: Just because I give a match a low rating doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it for what it was nor is it necessarily a commentary on the competitors. Not all matches are meant to be 3-to-5 star matches.
