Coming into this match, Serena Deeb has been sorta “out of the rotation” as far as being on TV since her ROH World Title shot against Mercedes Martinez. I was at this match live, you can see me doing the “we’re not worthy” during Deeb’s entrance along with “Brandon Cutler“, lol. It’s fair to say I have a lot of respect for this woman.
Sierra meanwhile, is a 7-year veteran with over 300 matches to her name. This is her 4th match in AEW (0-4) with her previous match being against Kris Statlander where Stat injured her knee (no fault of Sierra by the way, just a freak accident during a routine move).
Daddy Magic on commentary says he things the over/under on this match is 3-minutes which Excalibur harkens back to The Professor’s 5-minute beat the clock challenge.
Deeb grapples Sierra to the mat and then steps on her back. Deeb lets Sierra back up and then wrestles her into a laying Front Chancery. Sierra gets up and comes back with some strikes but Serena returns fire leading to Sierra eventually eating a rope assisted neck breaker.
Sierra manages to send Deeb to the corner using a Superkick. She then rushes in but Serena Deeb escapes between the ropes onto the apron then slides under the bottom rope grabbing Sierra’s legs and rolling her back. Very smooth.
Serena then does like multiple backslides setups to dizzy Sierra before hitting the Deebtox followed by the Serenity Lock for the win.
And Daddy Magic hitting the pay window! LOL
It was an enhancement match so there’s not a lot to grade except that Sierra was a total pro, sold everything well, made everything look good. It was a succinct story of Serena Deeb “playing with her food”. I’m not sure what to make of Serena Deeb’s “dizzy spell” move where it looks like she’s going for a backslide but then just keeps spinning her opponent. At first glance it looks silly but it may well be one of those things that really gets over with the fans going “Whoaaaa-oaaaa-oaaa”. We’ll see.

Note: Just because I give a match a low rating doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it for what it was nor is it necessarily a commentary on the competitors. Not all matches are meant to be 3-to-5 star matches.
