Kayla Rossi vs Avery Breaux

It’s Kayla Rossi’s debut match! I went into this match excited but also tempering expectations as Avery Breaux, the wily veteran in this match has 10 career matches going in. That is wild!

So Kayla Rossi comes out with someone named “Diamond Sheik”. Ok. Right away, Kayla looks physically impressive as she easily box jumps onto the apron despite not being very tall.

Avery Breaux tries to open the match with a lockup but Kayla just throws her off. Avery keeps coming back but Kayla shuts her down easily. There’s a very “play with your food” vibe to Rossi’s offence which suits her and it gives her plenty of time figure out timing.

Rossi catches Breaux off a crossbody, does bicep curls with her before hoisting her onto her shoulders. Kayla Rossi hits a Samoan Drop, kips up and then hits a standing moonsault onto Breaux. This looks to be the finish but Kayla picks Avery’s shoulders off the mat.

Avery hits a kick to gain some space but Rossi comes in with a Lariat and then hits what looks like a combination Brainbuster/Jackhammer move.

As a match to evaluate, it doesn’t score a lot of points. Of course in a televised match with more back and forth and needing to time things, Kayla still has a ways to go. I only temper my comments with these qualifiers because I don’t want to be accused of being too much of a mark when I say Kayla Rossi looked damn impressive for her 1st match! And it’s not like she had Serena Deeb in there carrying her. Very promising looking prospect!

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the one doing all the selling, Avery Breaux, with only 10 matches experience going into this… Obviously the showcase wasn’t for her but she never showed her inexperience. You have to be impressed.
