Welp.
I love Marina Shafir. I love Jade Cargill. I love Nyla Rose.
But this match/segment left me feeling very sour. An undeniable step backwards for a Women’s Division that had been taking off week over week.
I felt pretty thrilled when this match was announced. Even though the outcome would be predictable as the money feud is Jade Cargill vs Marina Shafir’s running buddy Nyla Rose, these are two wrestlers I love despite presenting very different styles.
As it turns out, the match was essentially a glorified heat segment. To make matters worse, this was the only women’s match booked on Dynamite (as is the custom, mind you) but 2:20 dedicated to #WomensWrestling on a 2-hour show. I sum up my feelings pretty well in a Tweet from the night:
I think having Nyla come out and live commentate the match was supposed to come off like the time Booker T did it in TNA but this wasn’t that. And bless Nyla Rose for giving it her all. She’s become a savant at making anything entertaining but even her flawless patter couldn’t rescue the segment I’m sad to say. The only good thing to come out of this was Marina Shafir’s new walkout theme.
I cannot give this match even 1/2 a star and that’s nothing against the women involved. This one’s on AEW.
Do better.
