Britt Baker vs KiLynn King

Pre-Match thoughts

So going into this match, Britt Baker has made mention of her not being on the All Out card. My hope is that there’s some way to turn Thunder Rosa vs Toni Storm into a 4-way match adding Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter to the mix but I’m not sure how they get there.

For KiLynn King‘s part, she went nearly 7-minutes last week on Dynamite versus Toni Storm. Maybe if Britt finishes her off in less time she’ll say she has a claim to being in the match? Maybe if Jamie Hayter interferes in the match to help Britt that gives her a claim to be in it too? I don’t know, let’s see how this plays out…

Thunder Rosa’s Announcement

Holy hell! Okay, so Thunder Rosa is injured. Her last match was on Dark Elevation tagging with Toni Storm & Hikaru Shida where I noted that she never got tagged into the match. She only had a couple short physical interactions during the match… Hmmm…

Match Review

KiLynn King gets a healthy pop from her home state of Ohio and proves to be good foil to get Britt Baker some actual heat (even if it is mostly aimed at the city of Pittsburgh). The match starts with a good back and forth which Britt gets the better of until she starts disrespecting King.

King turns Baker around with a roundhouse kick and follows that up with a German Suplex. She hits another big power move similar to Rock Bottom but with a very different setup. I want to know the name of this move! That’s the second time in as many matches KiLynn has done something I’ve never seen before. She sets up Britt in a fireman carry position but Britt escapes and sends King into the turnbuckle headfirst. Hits her with a couple thrust kicks and a Curb Stomp, setting her up for the Lock Jaw for the win.

As a match, the action didn’t really scan to me as telling a story. Like I didn’t get the sense that they were trying to say Britt Baker had to be clever to out-think the larger KiLynn King. Britt Baker was just better. Which is a fine simple story. A match can just be a match with no wider implications. My only issue with that is I get 6-7 of those per week on Dark/Elevation so I was just hoping for something more. But maybe with the Thunder Rosa injury, things are in flux. I don’t know. It was a good amount of action packed into 4-minutes and KiLynn King has improved immensely.

Post Match

Post match Britt gets on the mic and admonishes Thunder Rosa for taking the match off due to injury when she defended her championship “with a broken frickin wrist”. She then talks shit to Toni Storm who comes out but Jamie Hayter attacks her from behind. Hikaru Shida comes out with a kendo stick to make the save. And that’s your 4-way at The Pape!
